Some news from Comic-Con:

Quote
As mentioned , the cabbage merchant will not appear, but "his legacy will be present in some form."

As an evolution of the first series, The Legend of Korra will have more sophistication to it, but still keep the humor, fun hybrid animals, and action.

It won't cover more mature subject material necessarily, just different mature subjects.  "It won't be another war, but a different sort of conflict."

On whether or not we'd see a love interest for Korra: "We love that stuff.  We're total cornballs, we love cheesy teen romance.  Rest assured, there's plenty or romance happening in the story, but it's the same balance of ingredients that we like."

Katara IS in fact the mother of Aang's offspring, who will be central to the show.  "We didn't mean for it to be a big super-secret, that they end up together."

On the persecution of Airbenders being compared to the X-Men registration act: "We'll see something like that, but in sort of a different structure."

Will it be a very different world from where we left off?  "Yes and no, the world has definitely changed, and evolved, and advanced, but we're very conscious of keeping the same feeling.  Not totally different, but it's definitely generations later."

"There will definitely only be one Avatar at a time, and it is Korra."

So will Aang have any kind of presence?  "Yes...in his way."

DiMartino and Konietzko will continue to work with Joaquim Dos Santos and Ryuki Hung, working to improve the design and animation.

The Legend of Korra will in fact be a mini-series, with Michael and Bryan directly writing each episode.

"As a mini-series, it's going to be really tight.  While we really love the filler episodes, those are some of our favorites, this thing is just lean and mean.  It's a really cool driving story."

Okay.

1.  D:  A mini-series?!?!  I don't know exactly what that's going to mean but... it worries me slightly.  But I guess whatever Bryke's vision is, that's what's going to be the best anyway so I should accept it.

2.  Okay.  Are people still HONESTLY surprised that Katara is Tenzin's mother to the point where they have to keep asking?  I mean, seriously?

and 3.  YAY MORE INFORMATION IS FUN I AM SO EXCITED.

I know, right? I'm sure Bryke'll make it awesome, but I wanted more Avatar than just a mini-series. Since she's learning Airbending, having already mastered the other elements, I'm guessing this is like "the lost Air book." Like, making up for the fact that the last series didn't have one.

Wow. is anyone else bummed out about this? I'm hearing nothing but positive feedback from everyone! So half the characters we knew are dead the other half are just old and boring. Like aang was just 12 now he's in his 80's! So it was all peace and love for 70 years. Lame. I for one am boycotting this "miniseries" for sure. So dissapointing mike and bryan!

In order for Korra to even exist, Aang would have to already be dead >.>

And after saving the world over a three-year run of the show, I think it's time to give the old characters a rest.  I think a miniseries would be perfect.  I doubt a full series would live up to the original, but this will be a good "what happened next?" sort of thing.

Yeah, but a mini series can be expanded...
I wanna know how many episodes a mini series is? Because most new shows get like an 8-14 episode first season and some get expanded or renewed relatively quick... Even some of the best names out there don't get more than 12 episode first seasons...

TZN: Will you be working on the new Avatar: The Last Airbender series?

ANDREA ROMANO: I already am. I’ve recorded three episodes. It's seventy five years in the future.

TZN: Will Aang in any way be in the series?

ANDREA ROMANO: I don’t know how much of the series I’m allowed to tell you, but that whole generation has died. It’s the next generation. So it’s really cool. It’s the same producers. It’s the same brilliant attention to detail and I’m very excited. Right now we are just making twelve of them and we’ll see what happens.

AAAHHH!!!  I wanted to see Toph have a metal bending school!

Also, only 12 episodes.  I was hoping for 20 just like one season from the original series, but 12 just seems like an understatement.  They are going to have to pack those things tight with plot.

WAIT WHAT.
WHAT.

Ant Wu to Katara: "and then you will have your third great grand child before quietly passing away in your sleep."

So... Tenzin is a grandpa?

D:

... *cough*

I definitely thought Katara would be in it for that line and also that they ALWAYS use her to tell stories.  The beginning opening thing, the story of Oma and Shu, even the story about when her mom was a little girl that she told at the beginning of the puppet master episode.
I just suspected she'd be like... the old grandma type who tells stories of aang and whatnot.
